WHEN Zamuxolo Bangwa’s long-time girlfriend kicked him out two weeks ago, the heartbroken man went to stay with his friend Vuyolwethu.
He vowed to fight to win her back.
Every night, neighbours heard him speaking for
over an hour at a time with her on the phone, pleading for another chance.
But then Zamuxolo (41) shocked everyone – and hanged himself in his friend’s room!
He was found hanging from an extension cord in Vuyolwethu Mkhanya’s room in Amaotana, north of Durban, on Wednesday.
According to Vuyolwethu, Zamuxolo’s relationship turned sour lately due to problems of trust.
“He told me that he suspected his girlfriend was seeing another man in the village and that it was part of the reason she kicked him out,” said Vuyolwethu.
“I am shocked because when we talked about it he never mentioned hurting himself. He kept saying he was going to fight for their relationship,” said Vuyolwethu.
Other tenants said they often heard Zamuxolo pleading with his former girlfriend over the phone, saying that they needed to sort out their differences.
“We would hear him talking to her over the phone for more than an hour every night,” said Thembi Dlamini.
“You could tell that he really loved her.”
Zamuxolo’s brother, Luyanda Bangwa (27), said he knew that Zamuxolo had problems, but did not think he would take such a drastic decision.
Zamuxolo was in KZN for work, and came from the Eastern Cape.
KZN police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident, and said an inquest docket was opened.
